Job summary

We are recruiting for a Registered Nurse or an Operating Department Practitioner who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

The Registered Nurse / Operating Department Practitioner post is a vital and valued role to support in providing high-quality, compassionate nursing care to women undergoing clinical / peri-operative procedures in the Maternity Unit.

You will be able to scrub for all elective and emergency maternity theatre cases and be able to provide post-operative care to the women.

Based within maternity theatres, you work closely with the Department Manager, Matron and multi-disciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining policies, standards of nursing care, staff and service development within the unit setting.

Main duties of the job

Assist and care for women undergoing elective and emergency caesarean sections, plus contributing to treating women during clinical emergencies.

The Registered Nurse will receive, transfer and position women for clinical procedures and support, monitor and care for women and their babies during clinical procedures and in the post-operative period.

Prepare equipment/ supplies and waste is kept to a minimum.

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure the safety and comfort of women.

The successful candidate will plan, implement and evaluate the peri-operative care of the women as part of a multi disciplinary team.

Store, prepare and administer prescribed drugs to women in accordance with Trust Policy and monitor the effects of drugs on women.

To work in any of the Theatre areas according to service needs, regardless of which theatre department they are based in, although it is anticipated that staff do permanently work in the department they are employed to be based in.
