Job summary

This is an excellent opportunity to join the Cardiology department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS trust. We strive to challenge our existing working practices and to constantly improve our service to deliver best practice guidance and to ensure that our patient outcomes are successful, and they feel valued during their visits to the Trust.This is a substantive appointment, based at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage but with clinical outpatient activity at other sites and cath lab sessions at the Royal Brompton Hospital.The Lister Hospital enjoys a unique geographical location close to London and Cambridge and the Trust has a reputation for our commitment to the highest standards of care, but also for our friendly and supportive approach.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be expected to be actively involved in the arrythmia service at East and North Herts NHS Trust, including outpatient clinics and cath lab sessions. The postholder will have arrhythmia cath lab sessions at the Royal Brompton Hospital. They will also contribute towards the general cardiology service at the Lister, including participation in the Cardiologist of the week rota which includes weekend cardiology ward rounds.Please note:The job description is currently awaiting approval from the Royal College of Physicians.

Qualifications/Training

Essential

  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
  • MRCP or qualification of an equivalent level
  • Complex Devices and Electrophysiology training and accreditation
  • Advanced Life Support

Desirable

  • Postgraduate degree (or equivalent)

Previous Experience

Essential

  • Broad range of experience in cardiology, in particular arrythmia management
  • Competency in ICD and CRT implantation
  • Competency in simple and complex EP including AF ablation
  • Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
  • Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
  • Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice

Desirable

  • Demonstrable experience in a Locum Consultant role
  • Published papers and original work in peer reviewed journals
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of audit, evidence based practice and clinical quality improvement initiatives
