Job summary
We are recruiting for a Trainee Clinical Coder who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
We have a vacancy for a Trainee Clinical Coder to assist and undertake a range of activities within the clinical coding team.We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic individual with excellent communication skills. Full training and supervision will be provided at all times.
You will be expected to interact with clinicians and operational staff, be responsible for your own workload and meet increasingly demanding deadlines whilst maintaining accurate data management within the coding team at all times.
You will be able to work as part of a friendly and supportive team working towards team excellence.

Main duties of the job
The role of a Clinical Coder is to provide an effective, accurate, timely and consistent clinical coding service to the Trust and to ensure all coding quality targets are achieved.
To code diagnosis and clearly defined treatment for inpatient and outpatient activity according to the coding conventions of ICD10 (International Classification of Diseases) and OPCS4 (Operation Procedure Classification Standards).
Data sources used include case notes, discharge summaries, histology results, Chemocare and other manual records.
This data is essential for the effective management of the Trust and directly influences the Trust's income in line with the 'Payments by Results' process.
It also forms the basis for clinical audit, clinical governance reporting, benchmarking and medical research.
