Job summary
We are recruiting for a Acute Oncology Service (AOS) Clinical Nurse Specialist who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Acute Oncology Service (AOS) at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre (MVCC). The successful candidate will demonstrate extensive oncology knowledge and experience to deliver responsive, high quality, patient centred care. Incorporating the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role of expert clinician and educator you will provide advice and support to patients experience acute symptoms of their cancer and/or treatment. This will include holding the 24-hr/7-day week telephone triage and a being part of the 5-day week face-to-face service. Supporting the lead acute clinical nurse specialist and working collaboratively with the AOS team, advanced clinical practitioners and the multi-disciplinary team the post holder will be a role model driven to improve patient pathways and experience focusing on efficiency and safe discharge. With an understanding of quality and clinical governance the post holder will ensure that high standards are achieved and maintained and that the role of audit, feedback and change is implemented and sustained.

Main duties of the job
To be a core member of the daily AOS service including the 24-hour telephone triage, providing high quality advice for patients experiencing complications of their cancer treatments and supporting self-care and appropriate referral of care.
To work as a clinical expert, excellent communicator and promote collaboration with the MDT.
To support the ACP in the assessment of patient nursing needs, carry out investigations and deliver treatments, ensuring safe management and appropriate referral or discharge.
Manage and escalate medical emergencies appropriately. As a bleep holder, to be a member of the emergency response team for MVCC
Supporting the Lead AOS CNS identify and develop integrated patient pathways that support the early identification of need, access to treatment and early discharge
To be competent in the administration of cytotoxic chemotherapy and provide specialist oncology and Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) clinical advice for patients, carers and health care professionals.
Promote a nursing culture that supports meeting the physiological, psychological, social and cultural needs of patients with cancer.
Demonstrate compassionate and kind leadership and support staff during and after challenging experiences including debriefs and clinical supervision.
Contribute to building an effective, cohesive and dynamic team, encouraging an open, supportive and empathetic working culture
Foster a learning environment within the clinical area and teams
