East & North Hertfordshire NHS Trust is currently recruiting for an Estates Maintenance - Electrician to work within our wider estate team.

You will be able to work as part of a multi-disciplined team of Maintenance staff and technicians to provide installation work on all facilities, plant, and equipment within the trust. You will provide technical engineering advice and support for the maintenance of equipment, fabric, and utility services for the trust. The ideal candidate will be a technician with an electrical background and be able to carry out roles with minimum supervision.

You should be able to travel between various hospital sites. A mileage allowance will be paid for this facility if own vehicle is used.

Main duties of the job

Daily tasks will include:

Diagnose, and repair faults on Healthcare Building Services to include: - hot water boilers, sterilizers, washer disinfectors, electrical distribution services, motors, heating and ventilating plant and controls, fire, nurse call and panic & intruder alarms, heating and ventilating plant and controls and carry out planned preventive maintenance tasks on the said equipment.

To deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others.

Be responsible for ordering engineering spares, materials and equipment needed to undertake the works.

Maintain and efficiently run plant and equipment using all relevant tools, machinery, and servicing equipment.

Understand the working, layout and operation of healthcare Building Services including engineering, plumbing and electrical systems on all the Trust's properties and instruct others on maintenance and inspection.

Essential

  • Approved Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, or City Guilds Technicians Certificate, BTEC ONC or equivalent in relevant topics
  • Ability to travel easily within trust sites
  • Current IEE 16th & 17th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • Relevant training courses, particularly NHS/HTM orientated
  • GAS SAFE Registered
  • BTEC in Medical Gases for Competent Persons
  • HV & LV Competent Persons course
  • BTEC in Sterilizer & Washer Disinfector Maintenance & Testing to current specifications

Previous Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience working on breakdowns and PPM on technical, electrical plant found in a hospital environment.
  • Previous hospital experience
  • GAS SAFE related work

  • Able to communicate - verbal and written. Keep accurate and legible records.
  • Presentable appearance to customers.
  • To be computer literate.
  • Able to work unsupervised
  • Covers supervisor's duties in his/her absence.

  • Understands the complete working of electrical systems in the NHS buildings.
  • Is electrically biased.

Desirable

  • Recognised M&E hands on experience with steam systems.
  • Boiler houses, DHWS, Heating services, A/C plant and equipment, compressors, vacuum systems and refrigeration plant and equipment
  • Working knowledge of maintenance of medical gases, catering equipment.
