Job summary

We are recruiting for a Philanthropy Manager who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

This role is a fantastic opportunity for someone who has a proven track record of securing income for capital and other projects, and the ability to significantly increase funding from this source to join our fundraising team at Paul Strickland Scanner Centre.

Co-located with Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, Paul Strickland Scanner Centre has been a pioneering, independent medical centre since 1985.

We're an internationally recognised leader in cancer imaging.

We operate as a registered charity and provide high-quality CT, MRI and PET-CT scans for mainly cancer patients. Our scanners and other equipment are frequently updated to make sure our patients enjoy the highest quality care we can provide. We also support ground-breaking medical research to bring about breakthroughs in the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of cancer.

Main duties of the job

The Philanthropy Manager is a key member of the centre's Communications and Fundraising Team and will maximise philanthropic income by securing major gifts from, and partnerships with, organisations and individuals, particularly major donors, charitable sources and businesses. This will include nurturing relations with charitable and other grant-making organisations, seeking out grant opportunities, writing and submitting well-written grant applications following a full-cost recovery model in collaboration with internal stakeholders.

The post holder will be accountable for building and managing relationships with individuals as well as organisations to ensure successful delivery against both activity and financial goals. This will require managing a schedule of regular appeals and fundraising events that are in line with Paul Strickland Scanner Centre funding needsand priorities.

You will be part of our friendly and dedicated Fundraising and Communications Team, following a hybrid working pattern.

  • Qualification in fundraising or equivalent level of knowledge gained through experience.

Desirable

  • Membership of the Institute of Fundraising
  • Full UK driving license

Previous Experience

  • Three years' direct experience of working within a trust fundraising, major giving, operational fundraising and/or capital appeal at a middle to senior level, including negotiating with funders
  • Experience of sustaining support and developing new contacts and networks
  • Experience of working in partnership and achieving successful results
  • Experience of project management and reporting
  • Experience of researching and approaching trusts, foundations and other grant makers
  • Experience of face-to-face relationship building and networking
  • Solid relationship marketing experience, preferably with high value and major donors
  • Proven track record of achieving income against agreed financial targets
  • Experience of using research sources and methods and analysing research data.
  • Track record of securing major gifts and capital income

  • Experience working with trustees and honorary roles to harness their support for major projects
  • Working knowledge of using a CRM system
