Job summary

We are recruiting for a Specialist Radiographer Treatment Planning who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

Radiotherapy Physics is responsible for providing a clinical scientific service to the Radiotherapy Department of Mount Vernon Centre for Cancer Treatment (MVCCT).

This section of Medical Physics is responsible for; ensuring the accurate calibration, according to national recommendations, of all radiotherapy and brachytherapy treatment machines, simulators etc and providing a routine quality control service for all equipment used in simulating, planning, verifying and treating radiotherapy patients Radiotherapy physics provides a treatment planning service to radiotherapy for both external beam and brachytherapy.

The Radiotherapy Physics department supports training of its staff and will, where practicable, encourage appropriate training through whatever media are best suited to the post-holder and situation.

Main duties of the job

The main role of this post is to carry out treatment planning utilising both conventional and Inverse planned technique

Produce routine and some complex treatment plans and carry out associated dosimetry calculations, in accordance with clinical prescription and agreed procedures.

Check that all patient images required to produce treatment plans are available.

Analyse requirements and make complex judgements regarding treatment parameters and patient dose effects to produce the required dose distribution over the treatment volume, using computerised planning systems as appropriate.

Advise clinical staff (Consultant Clinical Oncologists and registrars) on the effects of various treatment plan options on patient dose distributions. Discuss and agree approaches with clinical staff to create optimum treatment plans.

Participate in an appropriate Continuing Professional Development scheme. Maintain therapeutic radiographic skills, working with patients as required and if appropriate.
