Job summary

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to join our Radiology Department at St Albans City Hospital.

This role offers the opportunity to provide high-quality, individualised care to patients, relatives, and carers, while working closely with a diverse multidisciplinary team including radiographers, consultant radiologists, radiographic departmental assistants, and administrative staff.

You will play an integral role in ensuring safe, effective, and patient-centred care within Radiology, while supporting and supervising junior staff.

This is an exciting opportunity to further develop your clinical and leadership skills, contribute to innovation in patient care, and make a meaningful difference in a dynamic hospital environment.

Previous experience in Radiology is essential.

Main duties of the job

o Provide nursing support and clinical expertise to enable high-quality, safe care for patients undergoing diagnostic procedures.o Work alongside the multidisciplinary team to support and coordinate services within Radiology.o Assist in leading and supervising junior members of staff, promoting education, development, and good practice.o Act as a role model, delivering direct clinical care and supporting patients with complex needs.o Support patient flow and service delivery across multiple sites when required (Watford, Hemel Hempstead).o Respond to patient, carer, or relative concerns with professionalism and sensitivity, escalating where appropriate.

Essential

  • Registered Nurse.
  • Experience in nursing acutely unwell patients.
  • Experience of supervision of junior staff.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.

Desirable

  • Leadership qualification.

Knowledge:

Essential

  • Ability in teaching of junior members of staff and nurses.
  • Able to demonstrate application of expanded roles/skills within clinical setting.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work professionally under pressure.
  • Competency in venepuncture.
  • To be able to give sedation to patients.
  • Proficient IT skills.
  • Ability to maintain budget and stock control.
  • Understanding of Microsoft office including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • To be able to run a list and delegate duties to staff as Nurse in Charge.
  • To be able to Pre-op asses' patients prior to admission.

  • Passed sedation assessment.
