band 7- Senior Responsible Assessor for Lung Cancer Screening

Job summary

This role will be fundamental in the delivery and running of a high quality and effective Lung Cancer Screening service. The overall purpose of the Lung Cancer Screening Programme is to enable the early detection of lung cancer to save lives. You will work closely under the supervision of the Clinical Director and alongside clinical key stakeholders, reporting to the Head of Nursing for Planned Care in Medicine to ensure the delivery and successful implementation of the screening programme and coordinate the onward care and management of all actionable clinical findings. The Responsible Assessor is an integral part of the overall programme governance structure with specific responsibility for the safety and operational aspects of the process to select and assess the individual cases for entry into the service. They will continually oversee and monitor the clinical programme, the assessment and management of participants and provide day to day leadership of the clinical service. They will ensure: o appropriate action is taken when clinical findings are identified as part of the assessment for eligibility and during any add-on investigations such as spirometry and assessing cardiovascular risk. This may include further management in primary and/or secondary care.

Main duties of the job

o To act as a champion for patients and their interests and involve the public and patients in the design of process to select and assess the individual cases for entry into the programme, the lung health check and the risk assessment for lung cancer.o Ensure the patient assessment element of the programme is implemented as outlined in the national Standard Protocol.o Work collaboratively with local health care providers and working in partnership to support pathway development and design, modelling strong collaborative behaviours that focus on improving patient outcomes.o Display comprehensive clinical skills in history taking, clinical examination, assessment and/or treatment of respiratory diseaseo Act on clinical findings in a timely mannero Impart specialist knowledge, advice and support to colleagues, patients, carers and relatives where appropriate.o Ensure onward referral to other relevant care providers i.e. smoking cessation, pulmonary rehabilitation, etc.o Hold named responsibility for the Lung Cancer Screening patient group with reported actionable findings referred to SRM for clinical review.o To co-ordinate the Lung Cancer Screening Service at an operational level ensuring the efficient running of the service, effective communication and dissemination of information, leading the team and working closely with commissioners to ensure effective service delivery
