Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy and dynamic Traum and Orthopaedics team treating a large number of trauma and elective patients annually. We run daily trauma lists and the successful candidate will be part of a rota including regular trauma among other duties. Our team encourage professional development with a proven track record of successful conversion of ST1/2 posts to training placements.
Duties are based across the 3 Trust sites, primarily at Watford General Hospital and St Albans City Hospital. You will be accountable to the Trauma & Orthopaedic Consultants.
This appointment is full time, and the contract of employment is for a 12-month period from the start date.
Main duties of the job
This post will allow candidates to get a breadth of knowledge and experience across all orthopaedic specialities.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the orthopaedic on-call rota with an active role as part of the trauma team.
The main duties of the post will involve seeing, diagnosing, and treating Trauma & Orthopaedics patients, referring to other clinicians or general practitioners where appropriate.
You will be expected to work closely with appropriate nursing, professional, technical, and administrative and support staff.

Knowledge:
Essential
- Competent in basic procedures (which may be post specific) e.g. CPR, infection control, physical examination, history taking etc
- Understands current clinical issues in specialty
- Understands the principles of patient confidentiality and data protection
- Understands the need for and appreciates the role of audit in clinical practice
- Understands the principles of clinical governance - ensures patients are not put at risk
