Job summary

An exciting opportunity has become available at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospital NHS Trust to join our team as a Urology Clinical Nurse Specialist.

The successful candidate will work closely with medical and nursing colleagues to provide expert urology nursing care for patients across both elective and emergency pathways. This includes assessing, planning and evaluating care for admitted patients undergoing planned or emergency urological procedures.

This is a full-time role, working Monday to Friday.Some weekend working may be required.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide expert urology nursing care for patients across both elective and emergency pathways. They will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for admitted patients undergoing planned surgical/urological procedures and for those admitted via the Emergency Department requiring specialist intervention.

This role requires a high level of autonomy, including the management of nurse-led clinics, delivery of complex specialist procedures, and clinical decision-making. The post holder is expected to undertake advanced leadership, education, service development, and governance responsibilities, which are essential to safe and effective service delivery and align with Trust strategic objectives.

As a visible and proactive leader, the post holder will champion continuous improvement in quality, safety and patient experience in line with Trust values.

  • Teaching/mentorship qualification.
  • Practice assessor qualification.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Advanced clinical knowledge of urological conditions, surgical pathways, post operative care and emergency presentations
  • Understanding of specialist procedures such as catheter management (TWOC/SPC/ISC), urodynamics, bladder instillations, and diagnostic support.
  • Understanding of clinical governance, audit, risk management and quality improvement.
  • Awareness of current NHS policy, NICE guidance and professional issues affecting urology services

Experience

  • Significant post-registration experience at Band 6 or equivalent in urology, surgical, or acute care nursing.
  • Proven ability to assess, plan, implement complex care
