Job summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic registered Pharmacy Technician, based at the St Albans City Hospital.
Whether you are a registered hospital pharmacy technician seeking a new challenge, a community pharmacy technician looking to transition into a hospital setting, or a pre-registration pharmacy technician nearing qualification, this role offers an excellent platform to advance your career.
Main duties of the job
To work as part of the pharmacy team in providing an efficient, effective and safe pharmaceutical service to patients and customers.
To undertake a range of activities in the dispensary, including the preparation, dispensing and issuing of medicines (including clinical trial products and CDs) in response to prescriptions or requisitions.
To provide a range of clinical and ward services under the direction of the Lead Clinical Technician.
To provide advice to ward staff, patients and carers on pharmaceutical matters within own competency.
To assist the senior Dispensary staff in supervising, training and coaching of pharmacy support workers/student technicians in the dispensary and assist with the daily organisation.
Applicants must be self-motivated and organised. You will need to be able to work effectively alone and as part of a team.
Candidates will be encouraged and supported to complete their ACPT, if not already obtained.

Essential
- BTEC level 3 Diploma in the principles and practice for Pharmacy Technicians (previously NVQ 3 in pharmacy services / BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent).
- Current registration as Pharmacy Technician with General Pharmaceutical Council.
Desirable
- Accredited checking qualification.
- Clinical Technician Accreditation in Medicines Management (or equivalent).
Knowledge:
Essential
- Basic clinical knowledge.
- Requirements of Good Dispensing Practice.
- Knowledge of CPD.
- Knowledge of good stock control principles.
- Good knowledge of law and ethics related to Pharmacy.
- Understand the importance of the need for confidentiality.
Desirable
