Job summary

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our dynamic Children's Outpatient Department.

The successful candidate will deliver high-quality, holistic care to children and their families, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the department.

This role includes both direct patient care and essential general duties, supporting the team in providing exceptional care.

We currently have two opportunities:

0.40 WTE - substantive post

0.50 WTE - Fixed Term Contract ending 31st October 2025

Main duties of the job

The Band 5 Paediatric Staff Nurse is a key role in providing safe, effective, and family-centred care to children and young people in the outpatient department.

The nurse performs essential procedures like phlebotomy and allergy skin prick testing, adhering to evidence-based practices and Trust guidelines. They manage respiratory conditions such as asthma, offering monitoring, treatment, and support to both patients and families.

Effective communication is central to the role, ensuring children and their families are informed about clinic schedules, procedures, and care plans while offering emotional support.

The nurse maintains a child-friendly, clean, and safe environment, adhering to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) protocols to reduce infection risks. They also support the transition from paediatric to adult services in collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team.
