Job summary

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Project Manager to lead the strategic development and operational delivery of Demand Management initiatives within the Trusts Pathology Contracts and Pathology Business Unit. This role is focused on improving the quality, efficiency, and clinical appropriateness of test ordering across primary and secondary care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work collaboratively across multiple sites, engaging clinicians, service managers, commissioners, and laboratory staff to reduce unwarranted variation, standardise test ordering practices, and implement evidence-based strategies that improve patient care and resource use.

This position plays a key part in supporting national priorities such as GIRFT (Getting It Right First Time), pathology network transformation, ensuring services are sustainable, clinically effective, and aligned with best practice.

Essential

  • Degree in Project Management, Healthcare Management, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)

Desirable

  • Project Management Professional (PMP), PRINCE2, or equivalent project management certification.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Good communication skills with all levels of staff / customers/ suppliers
  • Understanding Policy and procedural documentation
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Excellent inert-personal and negotiating skills.
  • Proven ability to diffuse difficult situations and practice persuasive and empathic skills

Desirable

  • Strong understanding of operational processes within pathology or healthcare environments.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in a re-active and pressurised environment.
  • Evidence of working on own initiative to high standards against tight deadlines
  • Evidence of taking lead in delivering key pieces of work.
  • Plan highly complex workload
  • Familiarity with process improvement techniques and operational optimisation in a healthcare or pathology context.
