Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Practice Development Midwife (PDM) to join our team.

As a PDM you will be responsible for advancing and enhancing the quality of care within Maternity by ensuring the provision of a robust and supportive training programme.

This is a busy and demanding role which comes with the support of a friendly and collaborative team.

Main duties of the job

Developing, supporting and delivering high quality training to maternity staff in line with national guidance, regional agreement, and local need.

Supporting the development and implementation of evidence-based clinical guidelines and standards.

Developing and delivering ward-based skills and drills training to midwives.

Supporting ward managers and matrons with skills assessment and training based on identified need.

Providing clinical and pastoral support to midwives, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Onboarding new starters and supporting them through their orientation.

Providing managerial support to the unit as part of a bleep holding roster.

Supporting the wider education team.

Essential

  • Registered Midwife with a UK NMC Pin
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience working in a midwifery role
  • ENB 997 or equivalent, SSSA/Mentorship qualification
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • NLS trained
  • PROMPT trainer
  • MSc or willing to undertake
  • Teaching qualification such as PGCE

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of clinical quality and safety strategies and implementation
  • Up-to date and in-depth knowledge of current professional issues both locally and nationally
  • Knowledge of NMC Rules and Code of Practice
  • Understanding the use of evidence based practice

Desirable

  • Knowledge of national policies or drivers that underpin practice and staff development
