Job summary

West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Teaching Trust (including Watford General, Hemel Hempstead General and St Albans City Hospitals) is welcoming applicants for an Orthopaedic Consultant Surgeon with a specialist interest in Lower Limb Surgery.

This is an exciting appointment to join a team of 17 Consultants to allow us to continue providing our patients the best elective and trauma care we can. This post is a 10 PA contract with view of increasing this with additional sessions if required.

The successful consultant will be part of a team of 17 consultants for the provision of an emergency trauma and elective orthopaedic service and contribute to the supervision and training of the Basic and Higher Surgical Trainees within the department.

The on-call Rota will be 1 in 8 for weekdays (Monday through Thursday) and 1 in 12 for weekends (Friday through Sunday).

You will be expected to assist the West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust to achieve their commitments to the National Plan for modernization of the NHS, including achieving the 18 week patient pathway.Interview date: 23rd November

The appointee will be expected to fully contribute to the administrative, teaching and research activities within the department. All consultants represent the department on various committees within the trust as well as taking responsibility for particular delegated areas according to their interests and availability. The Clinical Director is responsible for delegating these responsibilities.

This post is a replacement post and will have a middle-grade post attached to it. All Consultants take responsibility for the teaching of Specialist Registrars, and these rotate through the specialities they require for their training.

The appointee will contribute to the teaching of medical students and trainee doctors and to participate in weekly postgraduate meetings of the Trauma & Orthopaedic Department as well as audit, governance and training meetings.
