Job summary

We are seeking to appoint a Resident Consultant Obstetrician, with interest in Fetal Medicine to join our team at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

The successful candidate will be required to provide a full elective and emergency Obstetrics and Gynaecology service to patients attending the hospital. Contribute fully to the resident on-call workload of the department and deliver a special interest in Fetal medicine to the highest possible standards.

For suitable candidates, the Trust have agreed a proposal for up to 1PA of SPA time/week to be worked flexibly.

This change in in line with the Trusts' flexible working agenda and recognition of the enormous contribution that this group of staff continue to provide to our staff and patients

  • Successful candidates will be also eligible for a relocation allowance in excess of £12,000(if required)

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the Consultant Obstetrician with interest in Fetal medicine are:

  • work collaboratively with the current Team and within the wider multidisciplinary teams to provide high quality care for the wide range of Obstetrics and Gynaecology cases seen at the Trust
  • work with Consultants within the department to provide a full elective and emergency Obstetrics and Gynaecology service to women attending the hospital
  • contribute fully to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology workload of the department, including Delivery Suite sessions and an on-call commitment
  • take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate education

Job responsibilities

The key areas of responsibility of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Consultant are to:

  • Provide a full elective and emergency Obstetrics and Gynaecology service to patients attending the hospital
  • Contribute fully to the resident on-call workload of the department
  • Deliver a special interest in fetal medicine to the highest possible standards
  • Comply with all relevant Trust policies relating to the provision of patient care
  • Work with service managers and clinical colleagues to manage caseloads in a flexible way and to ensure that clinical, national and local priorities, such as maximum waiting times for referral to treatment, are achieved
  • Participate in night on-call for Obstetrics, an equal share in the Consultant weekend on-call rota and a full share of bank holidays
  • Participate in yearly appraisals with the Clinical Director or another approved Consultant under the Trust Appraisal Policy
  • Take part in job planning and agree a personal development plan each year which reflects the developmental needs of both the individual and the service
  • Follow a programme of continuing education in order to acquire a broadening of knowledge and skill, and the development of personal qualities necessary for the execution of professional and technical duties
  • Maintain a personal portfolio documenting aspects of own personal professional development
  • Contribute to the administrative, teaching and research activities of the Division
  • Represent the department on various committees within the Trust, as well as taking responsibility for particular delegated areas according to Divisional needs, clinical and management interests and National reporting needs
