Hertfordshire and West Essex ICS NHS Procurement is an NHS procurement service hosted by West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust providing strategic, tactical, transactional, and materials management services across the five trusts in the ICS: West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust and Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.
An opportunity has arisen to work in a demanding yet rewarding procurement environment to offer a seamless, responsive, and professional service for our multiple Trust stakeholders in ensuring the right sustainable clinical products, equipment and services are delivered that support the net zero and social value agenda.
The Clinical Sustainable Procurement Lead role directly reports into the Senior Nurse Advisors and will be responsible in provide advice, assistance and support on all clinically related matters to all levels of staff within the five Trusts within the ICS relating specifically to sustainability projects.
The Clinical Sustainable Procurement Lead will have extensive clinical knowledge and expertise.
The post will be Fixed Term for 3 months (37.5hrs per week) based in Welwyn Garden City but will be required to travel to Trust locations.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the ICS Team and be an inviable link between procurement and clinical teams across five Trusts driving the sustainable procurement, net zero carbon and social value agenda.
The Clinical Sustainable Procurement Lead will help identify and generate savings through standardisation in addition to reducing risk and improving patient safety. The postholder will drive partnership between procurement ensuring products selected are of the right quality, clinically suitable, compliant with national guidelines / legislation and offer value for money whilst also benefiting from innovation.
The role will also support Trusts within the ICS to manage clinical risk by supporting projects relating to patient safety, legislation changes and Medical Device Alerts.
The post holder will be a champion of Procurement and will represent the department across the ICS at clinical procurement forums, tissue viability groups and infection control discussions for example. They will assist and support a variety of projects as well as co-ordinate clinical evaluations relating to sustainable projects.
The Clinical Sustainable Procurement Lead will be required to support the Associate Director of Clinical Procurement in establishing the ICS as a centre of excellence, developing new initiatives to support sustainability across the five Trusts, ensuring that the service is efficient, cost effective and responsive to the changing needs of the local health community and wider NHS.

The post holder will use well developed communication, negotiation and influencing skills to engage a range of staff to enable the delivery of sustainable and clinically suitable goods and services by the procurement function.
They will use clinical expertise to provide clinical advice to Hertfordshire NHS Procurement staff, Trust staff including nurses, medical staff, Allied Health Professionals and other stakeholders.
The Clinical Sustainable Procurement Lead will champion a culture in which value for money is obtained from all supplier expenditure as well as demonstrate progress against sustainability agenda, produce formal and informal reports, recommendations and reviews for guidance and information purposes.
They will provide clinical advice and assistance to all Clinical and Non-Clinical staff within the member Trusts.
The post holder will review current product ranges in terms of clinical, cost effectiveness and sustainability, together with procurement considerations to ensure the most appropriate selection as well as working with the Trust to support and co-ordinate effective product evaluations to support the ICS Green Agenda.
They will work with the Trust and selected suppliers to ensure appropriate documented training is in place to support the correct and effective use of the product prior to, during and post implementation.
The Clinical Sustainable Procurement Lead will access and understand clinical evidence and knowledge that reflects current research and development including NHS England guidelines / NICE guidelines, liaising where appropriate with end users. In addition they will support the Trusts in the identification of / replacement of product issues in relation to Medical Device Alerts issued by the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency.
They will be responsible for ensuring sufficient and robust governance procedures are in place and complied with, to enable clinical quality in all goods and services procured
The post holder will also support Trusts in driving better patient care through securing continuity of supply of critical goods and services, through ensuring Procurement teams place strong importance on the evaluation and quality criteria in all relevant procurements.
