As our services continue to grow, we're excited to welcome a Healthcare Scientist or Radiographer with experience in diagnostic radiology and mammography physics to our expanding Radiation Physics team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in a department that underpins safe, high-quality imaging across the Trust and beyond.

Our Diagnostic Radiology and Radiation Safety Sections ensure the safety of patients, visitors and staff who come into contact with ionising and non-ionising radiation, including X-ray, CT, ultrasound and lasers.

Main duties of the job

In this varied and rewarding position, you will:

  • Provide high-quality scientific support to the Trust and external partners.

  • Participate in the delivery of mammography physics services to NHSBSP screening centres across Kent and symptomatic breast imaging units across the South East.

  • Act as the site lead for NHSBSP services supported by our department.

  • Contribute to the quality assurance programme for a wide range of diagnostic radiology equipment, including CT, general X-ray, angiography and fluoroscopy.

What Our Radiation Physics Team Delivers:

You'll be part of a highly skilled team providing a broad range of safety and technical services, including:

  • Performance checks and quality control testing on diagnostic X-ray equipment

  • Development and maintenance of local rules, risk assessments and radiation safety documentation

  • Expert laser safety advice

  • Management of the personal dosimetry service for staff across MTW and partner organisations

  • Instrument calibration services

  • Support for radioactive waste and source management

  • Training and education for clinical and technical staff

You'll also provide specialist guidance on legislation, national standards and compliance, helping departments maintain safe and effective practice.

  • Accredited MSc or relevant higher degree
  • Registration with HCPC as a Clinical Scientist or Radiographer or RCT Registration as a Clinical Technologist

  • Evidence of previous working experience of mammography physics or QC including the provision of a Medical Physics service to the NHSBSP
  • Evidence of previous working experience of performing independent quality assurance checks on diagnostic radiology equipment
  • Evidence of experience of supervision and training of staff e.g. those undertaking recognised training programmes
  • Evidence of specialist understanding of risks to patients and staff arising from radiation
  • Evidence of in-depth understanding of relevant legislation, national standards, professional and other guidelines e.g. IRR2017, IR(ME)R
