We are delighted to offer the opportunity for two Apprentice Therapeutic Radiographers to join the Radiotherapy team at the Kent Oncology Centre.
Successful completion of your training will lead to qualification as a Therapeutic Radiographer and professional registration to practice independently.
You will need a scientific and technical background with an attention to detail and good communication skills. You will be supported to complete a three-year undergraduate BSc (Hons) Degree in Therapeutic Radiography while undertaking clinical placements across the Kent Oncology Centre.Course delivery is predominantly distance learning with a number of one or two-week teaching blocks across the calendar year at Sheffield Hallam University.
Radiotherapy is one of the most important tools to treat cancer, delivering highly accurate and targeted doses of ionising radiation. We are one of the largest and busiest cancer centres delivering some of the most modern and highly technical radiotherapy available.
At the forefront of radiotherapy delivery, Therapeutic Radiographers are specifically trained to support all aspects of the patient's treatment journey. The role is challenging and rewarding and you will be trained to use highly specialist technical and clinical skills to care for, plan and deliver radiotherapy to our patients.
Main duties of the job
You will join a multidisciplinary team in a supportive environment, working under the direct supervision of our qualified and registered Therapeutic Radiographers to deliver a safe and high-quality radiotherapy service.
You will work under the direct supervision of our qualified and professionally registered Therapeutic Radiographers during your rotations through all areas of the radiotherapy departments to develop a well-rounded knowledge of all aspects of the radiotherapy service and the cancer care pathway.
Your placements will include time with the Radiotherapy CT and Planning team, the Treatment delivery team and the wider clinical, administrative and technical teams so as to gain an understanding of the entire cancer pathway.
You will provide radiotherapy treatment and patient support, in line with Trust and departmental policies and procedures, under the direct supervision of qualified staff.
You will report risks and incidents in accordance with Trust systems and refer any problems or concerns to more senior Therapeutic Radiographers.
You will liaise with other staff members in the wider multi-disciplinary team to ensure the care and wellbeing of our patients throughout their treatment is the very best possible.
This is a full-time permanent post (37.5hrs) and you will be allocated a minimum of 6hrs per week off the job study time.
