Job summary

This is an exciting post for an enthusiastic doctor at FY3 level to work as fulltime Medical Education Fellow in both Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust and the Kent & Medway Medical School (KMMS).

This represents a unique opportunity to gain experience of Medical Education in both a large NHS Trust and a Medical School.

The post will involve working with dynamic teams to establish and deliver innovative and integrated programmes for NHS Medical Trainees and Undergraduates.

The Trust has 430 trainees at Foundation, Core, GPST and Higher Specialty levels. Training programmes are monitored through Local Faculty Groups and the Local Academic Board in which Trainee Representatives play the most important role. Programmes are also monitored through Health Education Kent Surrey and Sussex quality assurance process and the General Medical Council (GMC) through the National Trainee Survey (NTS).

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be involved in both Postgraduate and Undergraduate Education within the Trust with a wide range of duties as detailed in the job description.

In addition, they will spend one day a week at KMMS working along aside Faculty to implement and develop the clinical and professional skills curriculum to Year 1 and 2 medical students.

About us

The Medical Education Department is responsible for the provision and quality control of Postgraduate and Undergraduate programmes to meet national requirements for training, with the wider purpose of improving standards of patient care.

There are 430 Trainees working in the Trust. The Trust currently also provides Undergraduate placements for King's College London Medical School Year 4 and 5 students and Year 5 students from St George's Medical School. Year 3 KMMS Students started their placements in October 2022 and Year 4 joined the Trust in September 2023.

This is an exciting opportunity for the region and the Trust. The Medical Education team are working closely with the Medical School and with specialties to develop quality training programmes for these students. The Education Fellow would play an important role in the continued development and delivery of teaching to both Postgraduates and Undergraduates within the Trust and at KMMS.

  • Medical graduate who has completed a 2 Year UK Foundation Programme and has current registration and licence to practice with the GMC
  • Demonstrates excellent skills in spoken and written English to be able to teach medical topics efficiently
  • Evidence of good career progression as demonstrated by full employment history
  • Experience of facilitating small group learning activities
  • Competence in independent management of medical emergencies
  • Evidence of interest and experience in teaching medical students and trainees

Desirable

  • Ability to give clear and constructive feedback
  • MRCP/MRCPCH (or part of), MRCEM, MRCS, FRCA part I
  • An understanding of NHS management and resources.
  • Leadership or management roles
  • Experience of successful development and evaluation of teaching materials
