Job summary
The post holder will provide specialist clinical physiology knowledge within respiratory and sleep and will ensure best principles of care are provided to patients at our acute sites Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital and Community Diagnostic Centre.
- To perform high quality, appropriate and effective Respiratory and Sleep test service; interpret results and provide technical reports
- Responsible for the monitoring and performance of calibration and quality control procedures for all equipment
- Proven competency to be able to supervise, guide and support all junior staff and other professionals
Main duties of the job
Planning and Organisational Skills
- To plan and prioritise own duties and those of junior staff, clinics and training activities within the service.
- Plan undertake and quality assure a range of simple, specialist, complex diagnostic assessments undertaken within the department as listed below under clinical duties.
Responsibility for policy/service development
- The post holder will be required to work according to trust policy such as data protection and patient privacy and dignity. The post holder will also be responsible for ensuring that all their own training and education is completed as directed by the Respiratory Physiologists.
Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:
- To be responsible for the daily operation of the respiratory and sleep department, including ensuring that all clinic administration.
- To independently perform, analyse, interpret and report on
- Measurement of dynamic lung volumes and flows (Spirometry)
- Reversibility studies
- Measurement of static lung volumes and capacities (via body plethysmography and Helium Dilution)
- Transfer (diffusion) tests.
- Field exercise tests
- Skin allergen tests
- Exhaled nitric oxide tests
- Bronchial Challenge tests using Mannitol
- Capillary Blood gas measurements
- Hypoxic Challenge tests
- Respiratory muscle strength tests
