Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic clinical support worker to join our Haematology Oncology Day Unit

The post holder will join the existing team to provide support and care for patients attending the treatment suite. They will work with colleagues supporting patients during their appointments, providing individualised and compassionate patient care.

You should possess excellent communication and organisational skills and be prepared to develop clinical skills, including venepuncture. You should be visible and accessible with quality and standards as your priority. You will need to be flexible and resilient in order to cope with the demands of this busy day unit.

Main duties of the job

This post will require you to work 22.5 hours per week. Although this job is based at the the Pembury, site it may be necessary on rare occasions to travel to the Maidstone site for training/meetings.

The Trust's core catchment areas are Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and their surrounding boroughs. We work from two main clinical sites: Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury. Tunbridge Wells Hospital opened in 2011 and provides single rooms with en-suites for all in-patients - the first of its kind in the country.

We employ more than 7,000 full and part-time staff in a huge range of clinical and non-clinical roles across both of our hospital sites.

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trusts Clinical Induction Programme for Clinical Support Workers (which starts on the first day of employment). The programme is full-time (please contact the CSW Induction Programme Lead ifthis is going to be problematic: rallen@nhs.net),lasts for two weeks and will involve travelling tobothTrust sites.Theprogramme includes 2 supernumerary shiftsin the clinical area (an early and a late shift),all of the other days are classroom-based andrun from 9am to 5pm

Essential

  • oFunctional skills English and maths level 1 or GCSE English and maths grade G/1 or above.
  • oNVQ/Diploma level 2 in Healthcare (competencies assessed in a healthcare environment) or equivalent healthcare qualification, e.g. successful completion of a level 2 Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship.
  • Internal applicants only: In the absence of the above qualifications, the job holder will be required to successfully complete a level 2 Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship within the first 13 months of employment.

Desirable

  • oFunctional skills English and maths level 2 or GCSE English and maths grades A*/9 - C/4. The Care Certificate

  • Minimum of 1 year full-time equivalent experience as a Healthcare Support Worker/Trainee in a care setting.
