The Haematology department at Maidstone are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Clinical Fellow to join their friendly and dedicated team. This is a newly created post that will initially be offered for a fixed term of 12 months.
You'll need experience in Haematology and a strong commitment to high quality, compassionate patient care to join our service. In return we can offer you a role as part of our growing multi-disciplinary team where you'll be supported to further develop your skills and experience delivering care to patients with a wide range of Haematological diagnoses in both in-patient and out-patient settings.
Main duties of the job
The role is based at Maidstone General Hospital where specialist Haematology services are based. The Senior Clinical Fellow role is designed to support clinics, the ward and referrals to haematology. This will be pre-planned and timetabled to best serve the needs of the service whilst supporting professional development for all members of the team. Provision of support to clinics will be alongside the named consultant of that clinic or consultants undertaking the named speciality clinic. Routine in-patient referrals are received via the electronic system with more urgent referrals coming in through the bleep system with the bleep held by the SpR's, MG and Senior Clinical Fellow on a rotational basis.
The post-holder will be expected to undertake bone marrow examinations independently following confirmation of competence or the completion of training if required.
Good communication and inter-personal skills are essential in this role and the post-holder will be expected to exhibit high standards of communication with patients, their supporters as well as all members of the multi-disciplinary team as multi-professional team-working forms the basis of our patient-centred service.
About us
Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust was formed in April 2000 following a merger of the Kent & Sussex Weald NHS Trust and Mid-Kent NHS Trust. It provides a haematology service for a population of approximately 460,000 people living in Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells, East Sussex, Sevenoaks and the surrounding areas. The Trust incorporates 2 acute district general hospitals The Tunbridge Wells Hospital and Maidstone Hospital, each with a similar catchment population. Maidstone Hospital incorporates the Kent Oncology Centre providing specialist cancer services to 1.2 million people and is the base site for Haematology services with a specialist 18 bedded Haematology ward and dedicated Haematology outpatient area
Clinical Haematology is a Directorate within the Cancer Services Division forming an integral part of the Kent and Medway Cancer Network. All tumour sites across the Network have been peer-reviewed and operate within national standards.
There are currently nine Consultant Haematologists with a wide breadth and depth of experience and expertise. Haematology clinics are undertaken at both hospitals and a range of outpatient treatments are available across both sites including outpatient systemic anti-cancer treatment (SACT), blood and platelet transfusions and other treatments, intrathecal chemotherapy is available at Maidstone Hospital.
