Job summary
You will be responsible for commissioning, maintenance, calibration and repair of a wide range of medical diagnostic and therapeutic devices, within the Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
You will also be responsible for the supervision of Workshop Staff and Contractors (in the E.M.E. Workshop Managers absence), and the implementation of Quality Assurance Procedures, as required.
Main duties of the job
Equipment covered comprises both Medical Devices and Laboratory Instrumentation, including electronic, electrical, mechanical, computer software and medical gas systems.
You will be directly responsible to the E.M.E. Workshop Manager and accountable to the E.M.E. Services Manager.
You will develop a close working relationship with other Departmental Managers, Clinical Staff within this and other NHS Trusts, Senior Managers in Private Health Care premises and specialist Contractors Staff

- Higher National Certificate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. (NVQ 6 or higher)
Desirable
- Registration as a Clinical Technologist
- Degree in Clinical Engineering
Experience
Essential
- Experience in applying workshop technology to patient-critical equipment and techniques in healthcare.
- Extensive practical experience in electronic and medical engineering workshop practices and techniques for at least 6 years post-qualification.
- Specialist training in the maintenance and repair of a range of medical devices and laboratory equipment
- Able to prioritise and manage own work.
- General knowledge of electronic workshop practice and computer systems.
- Advanced knowledge of electrical and electronic engineering.
- Specialised knowledge of medical electronics, electro-mechanical systems, computing and medical device support.
- Broad knowledge of medical device operation and management.
- Ability to assess the suitability and efficacy of a medical device in a given clinical environment.
- High level of understanding of patient and staff risks arising from equipment failure.
