Job summary

We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join the HPB Consultant team on a permanent basis at the University Hospitals of Leicester.

Leicester has a large thriving HPB department which covers a catchment area of over 2 million. The unit undertakes over 80 pancreatic surgeries annually and over 120 liver resections. Leicester has a thriving research and teaching record. The unit work closely as a team delivering the best possible care for their patients. The Leicester HPB department also hosts the largest ERCP department in England undertaking over 1000 ERCPs annually. Leicester is also one of only 4 national centers who have been commissioned to undertake TPIAT (Total pancreatectomy and islet autotransplantation) for patients with chronic pancreatitis.

This posts will principally be based at the Glenfield Hospital, although travel to other sites in Leicester will be required on occasion.

Main duties of the job

PRINCIPAL ELEMENTS OF THE POST

  • Responsible for the management of outpatient, day surgery and in-patients
  • To lead ward rounds, outpatients and theatre activity
  • Perform HPB surgical procedures including cholecystectomy and cancer resection
  • Outpatient review of patients and assessment of new referrals to the department.
  • To undertake diagnostic testing
  • To take part on the one-in-8 consultant on-call rota
  • To participate in a management role at an appropriate point
  • To contribute to the strategic planning and service development of the HPB department
