Clinical Research Fellow in Cardiology (Electrophysiology and Devices)

The closing date is 01 January 2026

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior clinical research fellow post within the Department of Cardiology at Glenfield Hospital to undertake translational research in cardiac electrophysiology. The research projects will encompass the remits of arrhythmia mechanism, novel ablation methodology and technology. The appointed fellow will be expected to work towards an MD/PhD registered at the University of Leicester.

Main duties of the job

Candidates are expected to have had substantial training in general cardiology and ideally be trainees in cardiac electrophysiology. Basic experience in diagnostic electrophysiology is required and a clear motivation to develop high-level electrophysiology and/or devices skills should be demonstrable.

The appointed candidate will be expected to participate in 1- 2 outpatient clinics/week within the electrophysiology service. Access to catheter lab and training in complex cardiac electrophysiology is negotiable depending on candidate's level of cardiology training.

This is a full-time research post funded for 12 months with the potential for extension to 24 months depending on candidate's performance. The appointed candidate will receive support from both academic and clinical supervisors. The candidate is expected to work independently but also collaboratively with cardiac physiologists, heart rhythm nurses, and cardiology registrars.

About us

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
