An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for a motivated Dietitian with an interest and knowledge in paediatric diabetes!
We are looking for a Dietitian working in paediatrics and/or diabetes who is interested in providing a specialist dietetic service to children and young adults with diabetes. A principle focus of this fixed term post will be to implement a quality improvement project to establish the role of a Dietitian as an educator within the team, given the rapidly evolving nature of paediatric diabetes. In addition, the post holder will develop and roll out a structured education programme targeting children with type 2 diabetes and their families. You will be a core and valued member of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) working alongside another highly experienced paediatric Diabetes Dietitian.
Depending on your experience to date, we will support you with training in paediatric diabetes, including up skilling in various diabetes technologies such as hybrid closed loop pumps.
As the nature of paediatric diabetes and the role of a Dietitian in this field continues to progress, working within this MDT offers many exciting CPD and learning opportunities.

Main duties of the job

- Reviewing paediatric inpatients with diabetes on the Children's Hospital wards/units including newly diagnosed patients
- Undertaking weekly Consultant Paediatrician led MDT clinics at Leicester Royal Infirmary.
- Undertaking monthly Consultant Paediatrician led MDT clinics in some of our Community Hospitals across Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland.
- Participating in weekly MDT, including chairing where needed
- Undertaking a monthly MDT Young Adult Clinic providing transitional care.
- Opportunity to achieve extended scope role status to independently adjust insulin regimes and/or non-medical prescribing status.
- Educating patients on latest diabetes technologies (insulin pumps and continuous glucose sensors and following patients up as required.
- Leading on patient structured education programmes, including developing and rolling out a programme for type 2 diabetes.
- Undertake home, nursery and school visits as indicated.
- Input and support the local Leicestershire family diabetes support group.
- Develop patient information and clinical guidelines.
- Contribute to local and national research projects as part of the MDT
- Actively partake in regional QI projects as part of the Childrens and Young Peoples Diabetes Network

- HCPC Registration
- Completion of a Clinical Teaching Skills Course.
- Evidence of having completed an Accredited course or equivalent level of professional experience at Masters Level in evidence based diabetes and/or paediatric dietetics
Desirable
- Completion of an Advanced Clinical Supervisory Skills Course
- Completion of BDA Paediatric Masters Module(s)
