Job summary

Applications are invited for a training position in Paediatric Emergency Medicine for 12 months fixed term contract. Post holders will train 6 months in the Paediatric Emergency Department at the Leicester Royal infirmary and 6 months in Children's' Intensive Care Medicine with some general paediatric experience.

This post will offer you a clinical supervisor, designated study days as well as opportunities to attend other established training courses.

The Childrens' Emergency Department (ED) is based at Leicester Royal Infirmary where we currently see 60,000 patients a year, which provides an environment to practice challenging but very rewarding Emergency Medicine.

The Emergency Department at the Leicester Royal Infirmary is one of the busiest in the UK with good standards of care and performance. Our aim is to be one of the best acute and emergency services providers in the UK over the next five years.

This is an exciting time to work in Leicester: we have a new A&E department which combines the emergency department and Admission wards. The adult department including a main entrance, initial assessment, minor injuries and illnesses, majors and Resus as well as an Acute Medical Unit, Acute Care bay, Emergency Frail Unit, Acute Frailty Unit and Emergency Decisions Unit

At Leicester we have a designated Education team comprising of a Lead Consultant, two Registrars and one administrator. It is their roles to maintain the excellence in teaching and education we have grown to expect.

Our Senior trust grades will be given the opportunity to book into CBD sessions, SIM sessions in our very own, in house simulation room, bookable practical skills as well as following a specific junior trust grade teaching programme throughout the year.

The topics for discussion constantly changes based on feedback from our trust grades, however, every other week there is a set topic that is taught, followed by a SIM and then an opportunity to present to sign off some of your competencies.

You will be entitled to have 27 days of annual leave in addition to a Bank Holiday entitlement.
