Job summary
This post provides consultant cover to the Paediatric Critical Care Transport service (CoMET). Details of the breakdown between these two areas is described below.
Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients referred to CoMET and support for those managing children requiring critical care interventions elsewhere in the hospital and throughout the region
Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences.
Supervise and train junior medical staff
To be involved in appraising and assessing juniors.
Teaching, research and administration.
To proactively develop the service.
To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit.
Main duties of the job
The overriding purpose is to support the provision of highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.
- Responsibility for the core consultant activity of day-to-day running and leadership of the clinical activities in the paediatric critical care transport services.
- Cover consultant colleagues for absences caused by late night clinical activities or when out on retrieval.
- Participate in audit activities in the directorate relevant to critical care transport.
- These are a continued availability to provide advice or undertake retrievals if required when on for CoMET.

- Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff including the observance of local employment and human resource policies and procedures;
- The post-holder will be required to maintain their continuing professional development (CPD) to be able to successfully revalidate. As per the Trust requirement the successful candidate will be required to have annual appraisal and attend / keep fully up to date with statutory and mandatory training as stipulated.

- oMBBS or equivalent
- oFull GMC Registration
- oMRCPCH by examination or equivalent higher qualification
- oOn Specialist Register, or within six months of obtaining CCT in Paediatrics
- oValid Level 3 Safeguarding Training
- oValid BLS Training
- oAPLS/PALS certified
Desirable
- oHigher degree, e.g. MSc, MD, PhD in Paediatrics

- oCompletion of RCPCH Progress Paediatric Intensive Care Medicine Curriculum capabilities in a unit approved for training by the RCPCH PICM ISAC (e.g. 24 months WTE Grid training programme) Including a minimum of six months of anaesthetic training OR equivalent training programme OR be in a paediatric critical care training programme and be eligible to 'act up' into a consultant post and have the support and approval of their Training Programme Director / Head of School. OR an existing practising consultant in Paediatric Intensive Care Medicine.
