Job summary
We are pleased to invite applications for the post ofLocum Consultant in Cardiac Surgery to join the established and highly regarded Cardiac Surgery team at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL). This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and skilled cardiac surgeon to work within one of the busiest and most innovative cardiac centres in the UK.
The successful candidate will become part of an established and experienced team of six Consultant Cardiac Surgeons, all dedicated to delivering the highest standards of patient care, education, and research. This locum role is offered for an initial fixed-term period with the possibility of extension, and provides a valuable opportunity for the post-holder to contribute to service delivery and further their career in a supportive and forward-thinking environment.
Main duties of the job
The primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be the provision of high-quality cardiac surgical care to both elective and emergency patients. This includes:

Participation in operating lists, outpatient clinics, and inpatient care

Contribution to the emergency on-call rota for adult cardiac surgery
-
Multidisciplinary team (MDT) participation and attendance at case planning meetings
-
Involvement in audit, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical governance
-
Supervision and teaching of junior medical staff, trainees, and medical students
-
Engagement in departmental meetings and service development projects
-
Active contribution to the delivery of safe, effective, and efficient surgical care
You will be expected to work flexibly with the other consultants and clinical teams to ensure continuity of care and optimal utilisation of theatre and bed resources.
