CONSULTANT IN OBSTETRICS – FETAL MEDICINE

Job summary

The department is looking for a dynamic and energetic Obstetrician to contribute to our Tertiary level obstetrics service at University Hospitals of Leicester, NHS Trust.

To provide a weekly antenatal clinic

To participate in the acute obstetric service at UHL, including Maternity Assessment Unit, ward rounds, Caesarean section lists

Supervise and train junior medical staff.

Undertake sessions on the Delivery Suite i.e. participate in the hot week, and work closely with midwifery and other colleagues to engender a supportive and mutually respectful atmosphere.

Take part in multidisciplinary case discussions and care planning.

Teaching, complaint and incident management and administration.

To be involved in appraising and assessing juniors.

To contribute to ongoing research activities at UHL. To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.

The appointment will be whole time. Any Consultant who is unable for personal reasons, to work whole time, will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with Consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The job plan will be subject to annual review, with any revisions sought by mutual agreement but it is expected that the successful candidate will work with the CMG management team to ensure that services are delivered efficiently and reflect best practice with processes and governance to match - this may require new and flexible ways of working in the future.

The job plan runs over a nine week period and consists of 2 types of working week:

The Consultants work in teams. The teams provide prospective cover for clinics, MAU and elective Caesarean section lists. Therefore there has to be a degree of flexibility for these sessions.
