Job summary

We are looking for highly motivated individuals capable of working as a team member or on their own initiative to join our Estates & Facilities Domestic Team providing an effective and efficient service for the Leicester General Hospital, you must have a professional and logical approach to your work.

Previous experience within a confidential/hospital environment or similar role is essential.

A good standard of the English language both written and oral communication is essential.

You will also be required to be fully flexible to provide covering for annual leave/bank holiday and sickness (Monday - Sunday)

In house training will be provided.

Main duties of the job

The role of Domestic Assistant is a multi-skilled involves cleaning duties within designated patient/non-patient areas within the Trust

  • Display a high standard of personal hygiene and presentation and demonstrate good hygiene practices.
  • Observe confidentiality of patients and employing trusts business at all times.
  • Communicate and liaise effectively with Work Colleagues, Managers and with Clinical Teams accordance with Trust values.
  • Working flexibly within the Domestic Team.
  • Working as part of a team.
  • Having and maintaining good relationships and communication with Clinical Services working together to provide a high quality service.

Job responsibilities

  • To carry out cleaning tasks, both specific and generic, within prescribed work schedules for designated areas, in line with Trust policies and procedures.
  • To adhere to Trust Infection Control Prevention and Control of Substances Hazard to Health.
  • (COSHH) policies in carrying out cleaning tasks.
  • Ensuring that Domestic trolley and other cleaning equipment are cleaned after use and stored appropriately.
  • To adhere to the Trust colour coding system to prevent cross infection.
  • Ensuring the correct and economical use of materials, and cleaning chemicals in line with above relevant policies i.e. COSHH always seeking advice from Domestic Team Leader if in any doubt.
  • Cleaning Cupboard Doors are locked when unattended and that all cleaning products are stored appropriately and securely.
  • To remove & dispose of cardboard, household and clinical waste following adhering to Waste regulations and Trust policies & procedures.
  • Ensure all equipment is cleaned after use and stored securely.
  • Report to your Domestic Team Leader any mechanical defects and any equipment in need of repair and any mishaps or untoward incidents.
  • Able to clean and disinfect areas after body fluid spillages in non-clinical areas after training.
  • Responsibility for the ward kitchen/regeneration area ensuring high standards of cleanliness are maintained.
  • Carry out any other duties as may be reasonably requested.
