Job summary

We are excited to offer the opportunity to join our team as Lead Pharmacist for Specialist Medicine, due to promotion of the existing post holder.

You will deliver, manage and develop the pharmacy service to medical specialties including dermatology, endocrine, general medicine, geriatrics, HIV and hepatitis C, infectious diseases, neurology, rheumatology and stroke . You will be part of a wider team of clinical service lead pharmacists who work together and support each other at a senior level, with the Deputy Chief Pharmacist, to improve patient care and staff experience.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will be responsible for the provision of a highly specialised pharmacy service to patients.

  • They will be expected to provide expertise to nursing and medical staff (within the Trust and externally) on the management of patients.

  • They will be expected to integrate with the relevant clinical teams to ensure efficient transfer of clinical and medicines management issues.

  • They will take overarching responsibility for all pharmacy research and audit projects within the service and be responsible for overseeing training including undergraduate placements, trainee pharmacists and diploma including independent prescribing.

  • The successful post holder must have previous relevant clinical experience, have experience of using electronic prescribing systems and understand the complexities of delivering a pharmacy service.

  • They must also have previous leadership and management experience to have oversight of the day to day running of the service and to be able to resolve any operational issues.
