Job summary

Are you a high-achieving design or photography professional? Want to go home at the end of the day knowing the work that you've done has made a difference? Then why not develop your career in the rewarding world of NHS Communications at Leicester's Hospitals.

We are looking for someone to lead our specialists in graphics and photography and contribute your own specialist design and/or photography skills. Together you will help to translate client asks into creative ideas, and high-quality visual content, whether clinical or non-clinical, ensuring the integrity of the UHL brand and striving for innovation and excellence.

With a strong focus on building and maintaining our internal relationships, developing our service offer for the future, overseeing our business-as-usual visual content and output and supporting a wide variety of non-clinical projects, this post is a critical one in ensuring our medical illustration team delivers an innovative, creative, and customer-focused service.

This is a newly created, challenging role, working in one of the five biggest NHS Trusts in the country. You can be sure that by being part of #TeamUHL your creativity and work will contribute daily to the delivery of high-quality healthcare that can and does change lives.

Main duties of the job

You will support the Deputy Director of Communications and Engagement in modernising processes in the Trust's medical illustration team and in delivering an exciting new program of work to develop a vision for the future of medical illustration at Leicester's hospitals. This will involve close collaboration with the specialists working in the team and the wider department as well as liaison with clinical and non-clinical colleagues of all levels across the organisation.

You will also play a key role in work underway to refresh the Trust's branding, acting as a representative at meetings, using specialist creative knowledge to support development and ensuring effective collaboration to secure a high-quality end offer and efficient roll out across the Trust.

Using your specialist knowledge and experience of either graphic design, medical illustration or photography and video, you will also contribute to technical delivery of key projects.

You will lead the team, providing mentorship, advice and support and ensuring team members' professional development and line management needs are met.

About us

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
