Advanced Specialist Pharmacist

Band: 8A

We are looking for a dynamic, organised & motivated individual who has an interest in Childrens Paediatric Oncology/Haematology & experience in general paediatrics.

The role is varied and will involve participating in multidisciplinary clinics, inpatient "in reach" reviews, ward rounds and MDT meetings. This is an ideal opportunity to develop your clinical leadership skills and gain broader experience of paediatric practice

You will be responsible for the provision of safe, effective, high quality & evidence-based services to patients within the specialist children's Oncology/Haematology service, & the general paediatric departments.

The post holder will work with the team of pharmacists and Advance practice pharmacists to support and drive change and improvement in clinical outcomes and patient experience through audit and research.

You will lead and develop the specialist clinical pharmacy service to the specialist area in line with local and national standards and policies, ensuring the safe, clinical and cost-effective use of medicines within UHL and the wider Health Community.

The post holder will have a clinical pharmacy commitment in a relevant specialty will be required to contribute to core pharmacy services including weekends, bank holidays early evening shifts and on-call on a rotational basis. The post holder may be required to cover a variety of wards within the women and children's service.

Main duties of the job

Develop and maintain an expert clinical practice in area of speciality.

To deliver highly specialised pharmaceutical care to patients and to support other healthcare staff in meeting risk management, financial management and clinical governance responsibilities around the use of medicines.

Deputise for the CMG lead pharmacist and Advance Practice Pharmacist as required.

Be accountable for provision of education & training to healthcare professionals onaspects of children's Oncology/Haematology and paediatric pharmacy.

Contribute to management of CMG drugs budget via regular spend analysis & participate in drug use audits to ensure optimal drug usage. This includes monitoring and management of

To actively pursue, lead & develop clinical pharmacy audit & practice research within the specialist area; publicise results of work through presentations & publications.

To undertake clinical supervision and mentoring of junior pharmacists, medicines management technicians and pre-registration pharmacists

To act as a role model and national pharmacist expert in the Specialty area, networking with peers in other organisations

The post holder will be expected tocontribute to core pharmacy services including weekends, bank holidays early evening shifts and on-call on a rotational basis

To support the service manager as duty pharmacist and to deputise for the directorate lead pharmacist as required.
