Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery at University Hospitals of Leicester with a special interested in Hand Surgery.
We are looking to recruit a dynamic, forward thinking substantive Consultant in Hand Surgery. The post is with UHL and community partners.
You will perform a wide range of Hand surgery but subspecialty .We are a forward thinking team with drive and desire to provide the best clinical care for patients and families from our locality and beyond and you will join and existing MDT of 4 surgeons and extended scope physiotherapist and secretarial and administration staff, as well as registrars and a foundation year doctors.
This post is substantive and applicants should be on the GMC specialist register or, within 3 months of the interview date, have a certificate of completion of specialist training. Applicants must have FRCS (Tr&Orth) or equivalent and would ideally have appropriate subspecialty fellowship training.
The successful appointee will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical audit. The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust consists of three acute teaching hospitals serving the whole population of Leicestershire. It is fully committed to Continuing Medical Education for consultants.
Main duties of the job
- Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
- To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of patients.
- To promote new ways of working and co-ordinating care for patients in the community and to ensure that services are based on effective and integrated partnerships across the health community.
- Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences.
- Supervise and train junior medical staff.
- To be involved in appraising and assessing juniors.
- Teaching, research and administration.
- To proactively develop the service.
- To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.

- To support and take joint responsibility for the clinical work of other members of the multidisciplinary team.
