Job summary

We are pleased to offer an opportunity to apply for one of our established GP/Speciality Dr posts working in the Leicester Hospital Sports Medicine Department. We have 3 weekly clinics and it is envisaged that these will be shared between a number of appointees as these have been previously. Successful candidates will be expected to remain up to date with clinical administration and undertake audit and mandatory training. It is recognised that these posts attract interest both from doctors with established track record of MSK/SEM as an interest, and those who wish to develop this interest. Previous experience of delivering NHS-based musculoskeletal care is an advantage but not a necessity for application as a part of this post is about supporting professional development at whatever level a successful candidate may be at. As we move forward within our local Intergraded Care System, it will be important that chronic MSK problems are diagnosed and managed effectively within low-cost clinical environments. Post holders will have the support of a named Consultant mentor. Successful candidates will be expected to remain up to date with clinical administration and undertake audit and mandatory training.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this post are to provide secondary care Musculoskeletal, Sport and Exercise Medicine care as part of a multi-disciplinary team within Consultant lead clinics. The post-holder/s will work in NHS clinics held at the National Centre for Sport & Exercise Medicine at Loughborough University, or at the Leicester General Hospital. Through these the post-holder will assess and manage patients with a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, under the care of a named Consultant, working in a broad multi-professional clinical service. The post/s might appeal to General Practitioners, including portfolio GPs, who wish to further develop their experience of assessing and managing musculoskeletal conditions across the interface between primary and secondary care. Post holders will have the support of a named Consultant mentor. We see this as positive way to develop relationships with colleagues in primary care. Successful candidates will be expected to remain up to date with clinical administration and undertake audit and mandatory training. Funding is available for a maximum of 3 weekly clinical sessions at this time.

About us

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
