Job summary

We are looking for experienced intensive care doctors (ST5 level and above) to work as part of the ACCOTS (Adult Critical Care Transfer and Coordination service) and as a senior Adult Intensive Care Medicine Fellow to work on the intensive care at Glenfield Hospital. You will work as an integral member of the adult intensive care team at Glenfield Hospital, and we can support a candidate with research, echocardiography and transfer competencies. Successful applicants will be given the opportunity to attend formalised Transport training and other courses relevant to any special interest. Time will be allocated for non-clinical duties to allow the successful applicant to take part in additional activities. The unit is recognised for advanced Intensive Care Medicine (ICM) training and this post is suitable for ICM trainees from all disciplines. Posts are also suitable for ICM trainees on a recognised training programme wishing to pursue a transfer module as part of their special skills yearduring stage 2 training. Posts are available for 6 months with the possibility of extension to 12 months if mutually agreeable. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and ambitious individual to further develop key critical care skills both in transport and in a leading cardio-thoracic intensive care unit.

Main duties of the job

This post is suitable for Intensive Care Medicine (or anaesthesia trainees) who have completed at least intermediate (or equivalent) training in adult intensive care medicine and are looking to enhance their skills in a specialist cardio-respiratory intensive care unit either as an out of programme arrangement or following their CCT. The post is applicable to all ICM doctors, regardless of dual speciality interest: Anaesthesia, Respiratory, Renal or Acute Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Surgery etc. It is also suitable for doctors who are post CCT in Anaesthesia, those interested in Cardiac Anaesthesia and those interested in transport medicine for critically ill patients.

About us

ACCOTS is a newly commissioned service for the Midlands region providing coordination, triage, decision-support and transfer of critically ill patients between hospitals for escalation to specialist care, repatriation and capacity reasons. It is primarily focused on intra region transfers but must be capable of delivering inter regional transfers and have the ability to surge capacity when the Adult Critical Care (ACC) service is under pressure. The adult intensive care unit admits in excess of 1500 patients annually and has treated more than 2300 patients in the ECMO service. The ACCOTS service in the East Midlands has completed approximately 1000 transfers in its first year.
