Job summary
We are looking to recruit 2 Deputy leaders on our Stroke Rehabilitation unit based at the Leicester General Infirmary
There are few careers that are as rewarding as one in the NHS, or that gives you the opportunity to work with such a variety of people. Neurology offers you the opportunity to really make a difference to the lives of patients and their families.
Are you a Band 5 who is ready to become a Band 6 Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse or a current Band 6 looking for a different experience?
In all areas we will ensure that you are supported during the transition and we will work with you to create an individual development plan. In return we need dedicated staff who want to help us to continue to provide high standards of patient care within Neurology and be a role model.
The post is full time and a mixture of days, nights and weekend shifts is expected. These can be discussed further at interview but cannot be guaranteed.
Standardised hours of work for patient wards are as follows - Minimum hours the Trust can offer will be 23 hours per week.
Long Day: 07.30 - 20.00
Night: 19.30 - 08.00
If you are successful you'll become part of a talented, passionate team of people, committed to providing the best care for patients.
As a substantive member of the team you will enjoy one of the most competitive and flexible benefits packages offered by any employer in the UK.
Main duties of the job
As a deputy sister within Stroke Rehab you'll support the ward Leader to ensure the safe and supportive environment for ward staff to provide vital care to individual patients with potential life changing brain injuries or complex neurological conditions.
These patients at times are at their most vulnerable and can require emotional support, diversional activities, patient safety and personal care. This is a responsible and rewarding role, with a direct impact on patients' lives.
The right candidate will possess a calm and supportive manner and will work well as part of the MDT. Ideally the potential candidates for this role will have neurology experience, although this is not essential. Candidates must show dedication, motivation and a willingness to take on new challenges, have a proven record of undertaking audits and supporting change on the ward.
In addition to effective interpersonal and communication skills, you will be adept at both working as part of a team and able to act on your own initiative to provide an excellent standard of individualised patient centred care.
A full training programme will be available and tailored around any previous nursing experience you may have.
About us
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030). We have four primary goals:
- high-quality care for all,
- being a great place to work,
- partnerships for impact, and
- research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities. Our strategy is underpinned by newvaluesand we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all: - we are compassionate,
- we are proud,
- we are inclusive, and
- we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
