An exciting opportunity has arisen for the position of a Band 6 Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic (HPB) Clinical Nurse Specialist to work as a member of our established Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic multidisciplinary team at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. The post is offered as a 12 months fix-term/secondment fulltime position.
We are seeking an enthusiastic experienced Registered Nurse who is keen to develop their knowledge and skills in the management of patients with Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic diseases to join our nursing team. Leicester is a tertiary referral centre for patients with Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic malignancies and complex benign diseases within the East Midlands. As an autonomous practitioner you will have an opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge to contribute to the busy and diverse Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Service
Main duties of the job
You will be supported by highly experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist in the care and management of these patients. You will be supporting patients and their family through their treatment pathway. This will include active participation in MDT meetings, multidisciplinary outpatient clinics, inpatient reviews, nurse led clinics including holistic needs assessments and care planning. An integral part of the role includes managing the psychosocial needs of the patients and their families or carers, as they face the challenge of their diagnosis.
This is a challenging role and you will need to have excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to foster good working relationships, offering care in a kind and compassionate manner. The ideal candidate will be an experienced nurse with the ability to work autonomously with support from the multi-disciplinary team. You will be able to demonstrate recent experience of caring for patients with cancer and an understanding of Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic conditions and the complexities involved in caring for this group of patients. The team is focused on changing services to enhance the delivery of patient care.
You would be supported both clinically and in personal education needs.
Applicants should have a sound understanding of the Clinical Nurse Specialist role and be willing to undertake further training and development as required. The position involves cross site working.
