An opportunity has arisen for 2 enthusiastic STORK faciliators to join our Neonatal team to support parents on the Neonatal unit . We have two partime postions available . 1x 30 hours and 1 x 26 hours per week .
We would like to recruit to the team those whom share the ambition to increase breast feeding success , by ensuring all families receive appropriate support and advice .
You would work directly with families on the neonatal unit . Work in collaboration with infant feeding agenda with midwives , neonatal nurses and other wider multi disciplinary team , to offer family centred specialist support and guidance to facilitate mothers to initiate and sustain breast feeding .
STORK (Supportive Training Offering Knowledge and Reassurance) is an education programme which aims to promote parents and carers to make informed choices to address infant mortality, low rates of breast feeding, smoking and childhood obesity. This is done by offering training and education for parents in:
- Recognising the sick baby
- Reducing the risk of sudden infant death
- Breast feeding
- Smoking cessation and healthy lifestyles
- Basic life support and choking advice
- Coping with the crying baby
Main duties of the job
The STORK Programme Facilitator will deliver the parent education programme for parents and carers of babies receiving care on the Neonatal Unit. The post holder will co-ordinate breast feeding support to mothers and offer training to staff members. The STORK Programme Facilitator will provide training to families prior to discharge and ensure that a consistent, standardised message is delivered.
The post holder will support the Lead Nurse and Lead Consultant to evaluate the success of the STORK Programme through audit evaluation of outcomes and parental feedback.
The job holder will assist Neonatal Unit, transitional care /PNW based staff with early and appropriate education delivery to aid the discharge planning process and improve long term health outcomes .

The job holder will be supported to identify a defined caseload, including the assessment of educational needs to enable delivery of the STORK programme
To provide on-going holistic education on the neonatal unit for vulnerable neonates and their family.
Provide on-going education for the neonate, advice and support to the family in the prior to discharge home from the neonatal unit
The job holder will take a proactive role in the education and training of the multidisciplinary team(s), providing on-going supervision and support as an expert in the STORK programme
To work effectively and efficiently as a Neonatal Home care team member as well as independently in the planning, assessment, implementation and evaluation of the neonatal STORK programme.
To plan, time manages and initiates a weekly schedule based on workload requirements, which will meet the needs of the service and ensure that individual family needs are met.
