Job summary

Are you an experienced Therapeutic Radiographer looking to utilise and expand your skills? Would you like aid regional development of advance Radiotherapy and motion management during treatments?

The regional SABR/Motion management Radiographers will be a valuable role to support the key aims of the fellowships and help translate this work down from the fellows, through in to the Radiotherapy department.

They will also provide a pivotal role in progressing SABR/SGRT development across radiotherapy centres in the East Midlands in line with NHS England recommendations for roll out of SABR services to all radiotherapy centres in England.

The post will also be evaluating, analysing and building improvements to the current provision of motion management within radiotherapy departments in the region.

There are x2 roles which will be split to cover the 5 sites within the East Midlands.

The Network welcome applications from part time experienced Radiographers looking to build on their current working hours or those looking for a part time secondment opportunity whilst retaining clinical hours

Main duties of the job

  • To coordinate expertise to departments delivering SABR/SGRT

  • To utilise existing knowledge and experience in Radiotherapy, SABR and SGRT

  • To support the development of the Radiotherapy SABR and SGRT service by providing clinical expertise and leadership to implement evidence based practice.

  • To lead on the development of the teams and individual team members where required.

  • To participate in research relevant to SABR / SGRT and encourage others to engage with research activities.

Job responsibilities

The regional SABR/Motion management Radiographers will be a valuable role to support the key aims of the fellowships and help translate this work down from the fellows, through in to the Radiotherapy department.

The main roles will include:

SABR

  • To attend departments dependant on requirements (Departments depending on sites role is covering)

  • To attend the regional North (NUH-host, UHDB & ULHT) and South (UHL-host & NGH) SABR MDTs to gain experience of all SABR indications and work with the oncologists across the East Midlands RT ODN as well as the radiographers within the MDT

  • To investigate and coordinate the joining of both NEM + SEM SABR MDTs to form a single East Midlands SABR MDT

  • Collaborate with Lincoln and Northampton radiotherapy departments to explore barriers to SABR implementation and facilitate discussions between new and established SABR centres (1 fellow assigned to each dept and 1 subsequent Radiographer)

  • Work with UHDB Radiotherapy department to support the increasing utilisation of the SABR service and its expansion (Radiographer covering this site)

  • Work closely with existing departmental SABR roles within the region to aid with local objectives and help implement regional goals

  • To overall support fellows in achievement of regional SABR objectives

  • Attend UK SABR consortium annual meeting

MOTION MANAGMENT

  • Aid departments in developing motion management treatment skills and protocols

  • Aid the formation best practice motion management protocols proposals for the region

  • Aid departments in developing an enhanced understanding of motion management and its importance in Radiotherapy treatment

  • To work with the oncologists, Radiotherapy physicists and radiographers across the East Midlands RT ODN

  • To learn the operations, benefits and limitation of currently acquired and alternative motion management systems.

  • Liaise with vendors of motion management systems.

  • Support the analysis and recommendations for improvements to the current methods used for motion management of SABR, breast and other treatments that would benefit, at each department

  • Coordinate the improvements and recommendations for motion management so that, where possible, departments are working towards the same (likely SGRT) high standard of care.

  • To acquire motion management data as a resource to support quality improvement projects

  • Present data both locally and regionally to inform future service development plus the opportunity for presentation at national conferences (such as annual SGRT conference)

  • Attend annual SGRT conference

  • Aid departments in developing motion management treatment skills

  • To overall support the motion management aspect of the fellowship, in achievement of regional objectives.
