LOCUM CONSULTANT RENAL TRANSPLANT SURGEON (6 months initially)
This is a new post for a consultant transplant surgeon within the Nephrology and Renal Transplant Service of the Renal, Respiratory and Cardiovascular Clinical Management Group, University Hospitals of Leicester currently based at Leicester General and Glenfield Hospital.
You will be part of a team comprising of five senior surgical members (4 consultants and 1 associate specialist) providing services for patients requiring renal transplantation and vascular/peritoneal access.
The transplantation service is traditionally surgically led, but relies heavily on a team approach and the surgical staff work in conjunction with Consultant Nephrologists and Consultant Anaesthetists and allied team members with responsibility for the transplantation programme.
Ideally an experienced transplant surgeon - with extensive skills and experience in vascular access surgery. You will be expected to work closely with allied team members to develop the vascular access services. In addition you will be expected to be part of both deceased donor and live donor transplant services and be expected to work within locations across the Midlands Renal network, subject to agreement.
Applicants must already be on the GMC specialist register or within 6 months of the interview date have a certificate of completion of specialist training.
Main duties of the job
To provide Consultant Transplant Surgeon services at the University Hospitals of Leicester.
To ensure the provision of good standards of practice and care as described in the GMC Guidance 'Duties of a Doctor' are followed at all times; and that bad practice is reported.
To ensure that clinical practice is both effective and efficient and that appropriate monitoring of clinical care takes place.
To actively participate in audit and clinical research.
To work with the CMG management team to ensure that services are delivered efficiently and reflect best practice with processes and governance to match - this may require new and flexible ways of working in the future.
To provide continuing responsibility for the care of patients under their care and for the proper organisation and functioning of clinical practice.
To work closely with other specialties, departments and outside agencies to deliver the objectives of the CMG.
To take responsibility for ensuring that critical clinical incidents, as defined in the Trust's 'Critical Incident Policy', are reported in a timely manner.
To participate in yearly appraisal and job planning process.
To undertake Mandatory & Statutory training as determined by the Trust and Clinical Management Group Responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department;
Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences;
To participate in the 1:5 on call rota

The job plan will be subject to annual review, with any revisions sought by mutual agreement but it is expected that the successful candidate will work with the CMG management team to ensure that services are delivered efficiently and reflect best practice with processes and governance to match - this may require new and flexible ways of working in the future.
Supporting Professional Activity (SPA)
in order to support the requirements of revalidation which include activities such as participating in audit, CPD and mandatory training, 1.5 PA's are allocated as a minimum to all consultants.
Up to a further 1 PA will be available for SPA by mutual agreement as part of the job planning process for further appropriate verifiable SPA.
