Senior Nurse Research Manager UGGS Team

Job summary

The Research Manager is responsible for providing direction and inspirational leadership, working in partnership with the multi-professional team across numerous specialties within UGGS, R&I, NIHR CRN, the wider NIHR Infrastructure Research Team and external partners, to enhance standards, keeping abreast of local, national and international studies and their relationship with trials being performed within the department. This involves planning and managing the resources required to deliver the local portfolio of studies within the specialties.

The research manager is responsible for developing and maintaining a balanced portfolio of commercial and non-commercial NIHR CRN as well as academic and non-portfolio research studies at UHL. This will include ensuring national research objectives are met through the appropriate development, implementation, and quality assurance of all research protocols and delivery programmes within the specialties.

The research manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with European and national regulations, with active performance management to ensure performance targets and strategic objectives are met or exceeded.

As a clinical research expert, the research manager is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the UGGS research delivery team. This includes developing, reviewing, and checking compliance against research standard operating procedures.

Main duties of the job

Managing the commercial delivery of the clinical research portfolio within the UGGS research team, working closely with individual Principal Investigators to ensure successful delivery to time and target.

Responsible for determination of the feasibility of multi-specialty adult research trials, demonstrating a significant level of judgement to gauge the level of risk associated with individual projects.

Providing professional accountability for the planning, management, adjustment and delivery of a high number and broad range of complex research projects, involving multiple agencies and specialities, individuals and activities, to tight deadlines and operating under strict operational

Providing strong and visible leadership to research staff and others by acting as a role model.

Coordinating and managing the operational activity and successful progress of clinical trials across UGGS.

Improving research performance outputs, which will require analysis of high complex information to work towards outputs to improve:

Efficient set up of studies, including research associated with the industry portfolio

Maintaining complete awareness of the requirements for the local clinical research portfolio, its investigators and support network, as well as their access to local administration, coordination and

  • Degree or significant relevant experience
  • Post registration qualification or working toward/equivalent experience

  • Previous experience at band 7 or equivalent. Minimum 2 years in nursing research
