Job summary

University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) NHS Trust is one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country and this is an opportunity to play a leading role in their large-scale change programme and be part of the success story. UHL are looking to appoint to the newly created role of Deputy Director of Finance (Strategic Finance and Planning) which will further underpin the Trust's commitment to strengthen its Very Senior Finance Team (VSFT) and to develop a world class Finance and Procurement Directorate. As part of the VSFT, you will work closely with the existing Deputy Directors of Finance to support the Chief Financial Officer in building a high performing team and culture.

Main duties of the job

Key focuses of the role will include:

Leading the creation of the annual policy, timetable and budget setting framework for developing the annual and medium-term financial plans, ensuring alignment with the financial strategy of the ICB

Provision of an accurate and transparent costing service and development of new and innovative ways to use costing and non-financial information to support financial improvement

Responsibility for recommending to the CFO overall income allocations for the Trust and the monitoring and reporting of patient income

Provision of a robust, high performing and sustainable financial performance function for the Trust's Corporate Directorates

Responsibility for ensuring delivery of an effective and timely Research & Innovation finance service which maximises R&I income and implements the Trust's medium to long-term R&I financial strategy, ensuring appropriate financial arrangements are in place for R&I between all partners

Provision of financial leadership for the Trust's Cost Improvement Programme, ensuring rigorous financial control is implemented across the programme

  • Professional Accountancy Qualification (CIPFA, ICAEW, CIMA or Certified) and current registration with professional body
  • Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development

Experience

  • Specialist knowledge with associate healthcare services provision, with significant experience and proven freedom to act and make decisions at senior executive level on behalf of the Trust
  • Experience in managing contentious situations and influencing diverse stakeholders, including clinical and non- clinical staff, public & patients, to achieve consensus
