Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of a forward thinking CMG in the NHS. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Diabetes Department, working as a Diabetes Clinical Information Analyst, a person who is looking for more than a standard administration role. You will be responsible for the management of the Diabetes Information system providing local information within Metabolic Medicine and throughout the Trust.

The successful applicant should possess excellent IT skills, to be able to produce and analyse timely accurate and meaningful clinical information. Have a wealth of administration and organisational experience. You will be an excellent team player but also able to work independently and flexibly with a high level of commitment. This is an important role and you will be required to work to tight deadlines and manage a varied workload. A patient centered approach is essential for this role.

Main duties of the job

  1. To administer, support, maintain and implement the departments Diabetes clinical information system.
  2. To manage the Diabetes Information system providing local information service to the department, within clinical management group and hospital information.
  3. To implement and promote the use of Clinical Information System within Metabolic Medicine and throughout the trust
  4. To interrogate the system to produce and analyse timely accurate and meaningful clinical information. To ensure that data obtained from the Diabetes system is available to support changes in the way the service delivers patient care.
  5. To actively train all users of Diabetes system and assess levels of competency, to ensure colleagues understand data protection issues and that Patient information is held securely within the system.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To work with clinical and non-clinical staff to identify information needs, both internal and external to the work of the department. This should feed an overall work programme in relation to Diabetes development.

To manage, develop and implement the Diabetes Best Practice Tariff database, liaising with clinical and non-clinical colleagues to ensure that all patients receive required care in order that the department achieves its quality and performance targets as set by commissioners. This includes attending departmental MDT and commissioner meetings.

To support requests for information, from standard reports to adhoc requests, largely from Diabetes for clinical and non-clinical staff within the department. Requirement for ongoing concentration to maintain data collection systems, process data which requires frequent prolonged concentration

To work with other hospital systems that interface with the Diabetes system, supporting staff in gaining knowledge of information that the systems can provide.

To provide lab and radiology reports using identified hospital systems.

To work closely with staff to improve data quality within the service.

To make contact with patients by telephone, mail correspondence and news letters

To co-ordinate and manage competing priorities and requirements for information in relation to department or hospital agendas.

To interrogate the system to produce and analyse data that will support the business planning process. To communicate analytical/statistical matters to non-analytical/statistical professionals. Provide and receive complex information from the Data Warehouse team. To be persuasive, motivational, and negotiate to meet targets.

To interrogate the system to produce performance data to the Diabetes Network to underpin the commissioning process & development of Diabetes services.

To support national and local diabetes meetings by producing data to support clinical papers and research. Analyse complex data obtained from hospitals data systems.

To use Patient Information Systems for tracking and analysing patient information to support clinical care, audit and research, comparing written hard copies of patient notes with electronically held data.

To maintain departments computer system, with system administration rights give access to new users and maintain user accounts. Manage departments peripherals and computer hardware for smooth running

To manage access to the system and maintain the security of data. To implement standards that meets the trusts requirements under all data protection legislation. This includes being the first point of call for user queries and escalating issues to IM&T and Managed Business Partner.

To support the diabetes programme of data quality audits, with close working with the service manager in improving awareness of the implications of data quality in line with Trust policies.

To act as a point of technical contact for users, with regard to problems with the Diabetes System and other applications used by the department. To ensure where IM&T support is necessary that it is arranged and supported within agreed timescales.

To ensure data protection and security protocols are adhered to in relation to the Diabetes system. To maintain good practice in systems security and data protection.

To provide a formal training programmes on the use of Clinical Workstation and assess users competency following training.

To assess user competency levels and provide training and access to clinical systems taking into account user requirements and permissions to ensure data integrity and security is maintained.

To act as data custodian for the Diabetes system, to be responsible for the referral of access to authorised staff at appropriate levels.
