Vascular Practitioner
Our lovely Vascular Studies Unit (VSU) is seeking to employ a full time Trainee Vascular Practitioner. This is a brand new post where you train and attain a Healthcare Science (Vascular) BSc Hons degree. This may suit those moving on from A-Levels or those already working in the healthcare sector, including nursing associates.
You will work with our friendly and dynamic multidisciplinary team consisting of 11 Clinical Vascular Scientists, Vascular Technician and administrative support. You will work alongside 12 Vascular Consultant Surgeons, 9 Vascular Interventional Radiologists, and 4 Specialist Vascular Nurses.

Main duties of the job
The role of the Vascular Practitioner will involve performing and reporting a focussed range of basic vascular diagnostic tests including non-imaging Doppler measurements such as Ankle Brachial Pressure Index, Toe Pressures and potentially developing Trascranial Doppler skills. You will train to independantly performB-Mode ultrasound imaging incuding Abdominal Aorta measurement (Aneurysm screening and surveillance) and some peripheral artery measurements. The range of tests perfomed will depend on the level of training and experience during completion of the degree (BSc) in Healthcare Science (Vascular). Additional training will be provided to remove and re-apply basic leg dressings. You will also be expected to provide assitance to the VSU administrator with booking and processing patients as well as making telephone calls where required.
The VSU has excellent facilities, adjacent to our specialist Vascular Ward, and is equipped with five top-range GE Logiq colour duplex scanners, portable ultrasound, transcranial Doppler monitors and non-imaging Doppler equipment. We have 2 purpose-built ultrasound suites in VSU, a ward scan room, a scan room in vascular outpatients, and a dedicated scan room in TIA clinic. All are spacious and feature air conditioning, dimmable lighting, and PACS reporting stations.

The degree is likely to be delivered by Gloucester University and the course is predominantly delivered as a distanced, blended learning programme with periodic face to face teaching being scheduled throughout the year. Depending on when your job commences will depend on the timing of your enrolement on a suitable degree course.
