Job summary

Location - Ward 22 LRI (may sometimes need to travel to the other hospital sites to onboard patients or for meetings)

This is an exciting opportunity to join a 30 bedded ward currently caring predominantly for elective post-operative colorectal patients at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

We have recently opened a Virtual Ward foreligible colorectal patients. This will enable patients to be discharged earlier (Step Down - Assisted Early Discharge) and monitored from home using an app and provided equipment. We have been funded for an additional Band 6 Nurse to assist in managing the patients on the Virtual Ward, from initial onboarding through to discharge, over two shifts per week. You will act as Deputy Sister on Ward 22 over your other shifts. As the Virtual Ward is a relatively new pathway, there may be changes which result in more/less hours required to manage these patients. The applicant will need to be flexible and happy to support the Virtual Ward project wherever possible to ensure it's safe implementation and continued success.

We have a caring and supportive team, dedicated to the continuing delivery of safe and excellent care which is supported by our exceptional patient feedback. We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic and highly motivated to join our ward leadershipteam.

Main duties of the job

In addition to the below summary you need to familiarize yourself with full Job Description and Person Specification documents attached to this advert.

The role of the Deputy Sister on Ward 22 is to manage all clinical aspects of the running of the Colorectal Virtual Ward (currently 5 beds, with plans to increase to 16) when you are assigned to this (approx.2 shifts p/week), receiving referrals from doctors on ward round and training patients on how to submit the data from home. You will monitor patients who are at home, and ensure their submissions are received daily and appropriate action is taken to ensure patient safety.

You will co-ordinate the Virtual Ward, ensuring that patients are receiving excellent care and continuous communication with doctors, nurses and their GP.

As a leader, you will also be expected to support the wider nursing team on Ward 22, when not assigned to the Virtual Ward, and manage any issues or concerns as they arise. You will work a mix of long & short days/nights on a rota basis (Monday-Sunday).

You will work with the supportive ward leadership team to drive forward positive change on the ward. When the Virtual Ward expands and junior staff are employed you will have dedicated management days to complete audits, appraisals, create action plans, and investigate incidences and to develop your leadership skills.
