Job summary

An exciting opportunity has become available in the rapidly growing Leicester Children's Hospital at the University Hospitals of Leicester.

The successful candidate will be a part of the wider Children's Hospital Senior Management Team, and will hold a leadership position within a portfolio of 6 medical sub-specialties including;

- x2 newly commissioned regional services, Paediatric Metabolic and Paediatric Rheumatology. These services are joint with Nottingham, and have an exciting growth potential in the coming years.

- The Principle Treatment Centre (Children's Cancer Centre), also a jointly commissioned regional service that provides service to the wider midlands region.

- The Leicester Children's Hospital Respiratory service. Which has many sub-services providing regional support to complex respiratory service.

- Tactical Command and on call commitments to the Children's Hospital, including oversight of ED, Surgical, and Medical areas.

This position would be a great opportunity for candidates wishing to develop their service management skill sets for a portfolio of services, involving a large number of engaged stakeholders across organisations. The service also provides a unique exposure to bed management as it entails all aspects of hospital flow.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for overseeing and managing all clinic activity for the Paediatric Medical sub-specialties:

  • Paediatric Oncology
  • Paediatric Haematology
  • Paediatric Metabolic
  • Paediatric Rheumatology
  • Paediatric Respiratory Services (LTV,CF,Sleep,PCD,General Respiratory, Asthma)
  • Paediatric Physiology
  • Cancer Performance
  • Single Front Door / ED/CICU HDU (Children's Hospital related only, not ESM, EMCHC/ PICU)

You will also be the lead link manager Datix and Risk Management work streams.

The post holder will also take an active role in the development of business cases and service development/sustainability practices such as negotiating with commissioning colleagues, the development of service growth pilots, service expansion plans, and transformational planning.

You will provide continual operational support for the above sub-specialties, working closely with fellow clinical, nursing and associate professionals to overcome operational and service issues as they arise.

You will also be the managerial lead for paediatric patients admitted requiring Long Term Ventilation support, facilitating effective equipment preparation to ensure the patients who are fit for discharge do not encounter delays.
